  • develops instrumental techniques in a musical context
  • pieces use Twinkle rhythms from the Suzuki books
  • can be played by children who are learning their first pieces
  • first eight pieces can be played as solos or duets with piano accompaniment
  • duets have an open string part plus melody part for more advanced players
  • next five pieces are solos which develop string crossing and left hand skills
  • each piece on the CD is recorded at two speeds – a performance speed and a learning speed

Flexible scoring: for a combination of violin, viola and/or cello beginners

  • use the Viola and Cello books, in which the pieces are a fifth lower than in the violin book
  • viola and cello beginners play on the A and D strings (as written in the Viola and Cello books)
  • violin beginners should play on the A and D strings, rather than on E and A
