Playing with Style is a set of colorful concert pieces in a variety of dance styles, including tango, ragtime, hoedown and jazz. These audience-pleasing pieces are enjoyable to play and will broaden the musical horizons of young players. The pieces use effects such as glissando and tremolo and allow opportunities to explore chromaticisms, swing rhythms, and syncopation, which students may not have encountered in their classical repertoire.
Playing with Style is available in two instrumentations: for Violin and/or Viola Duet, and for String Quartet or String Orchestra.
The Piano Accompaniments are designed to be used with the Violin and Viola duets, and are optional with the String Quartet or String Orchestra version.
PLAYING WITH STYLE - DUETS
The duets can be played by two violins, two violas, or one of each. The melody is shared between the two parts, which are of equal difficulty. The duets sound best when played with piano accompaniment. Violin Duet, Viola Duet, and Piano Accompaniment are available in separate volumes.
PLAYING WITH STYLE FOR STRING QUARTET OR STRING ORCHESTRA
In the string quartet or orchestra version, the violin 3 part can replace the viola part. The harmonies are complete with or without string bass, and piano parts are optional. The melody is passed around the ensemble so that all members of the group have the opportunity to play the tune.
